Can you process multiple donations through a file import using the Luminate API?

Options

I have a canvassing vendor who wants to collect sustaining gifts offline, confirm information through a phone call and then process the gifts once everything is verified. They would like to know if they can create a file of multiple gifts and push that into Luminate Online for processing through the API. I'm not sure if this is even remotely possible and if it is, I'm concerned about PCI compliance. Can anyone shed some light?

Thx,

Mike

    Hi Mike,

I've never seen a request like this. If you haven't already contacted Support, would you like me to escalate this post to a Support case so they can investigate? I'm just not sure what the answer is here. It may be possible (or it may not) but just take something custom. Let me know if you'd like me to escalate to a case for you.

  • I know that this question is several years old now but it is very relevant still today and I'm wondering if Blackbaud or any users out there have come up with a solution yet?

Mike, were you ever able to crack this problem? We have been skirting around the issue for a few years now and doing a decent job  of mitigating the risks but I'm not sure if our efforts would actually pass a compliance test.

  • No, instead we set up an API integration to allow canvassers to use iPads and post donations directly into Luminate. There is still some need to process gifts offline, but that is taken care of manually through the admin interface.
  • Mike, would you be willing to tell me some more about the API integration? If so please email me directly at rbadley@wwfcanada.org

    Thanks.
  • I would sure not be storing Credit Card numbers for later import. That's a giant problem. You pay for Merchant Services just so you can avoid having anything to do with any of that. Despite appearances, even Luminate never see's an actual credit card number.

We're starting to experiment with BB MobilePay here. That's a card-swipe device that works with LO Forms, so they don't have to type their numbers.
  • Brian, now that the LO integration is fully rolled out, we're configuring MobilePay to use with the card swipers day-of-event as well.  Was just working this morning on getting the TR donation form to dynamically simplify based on the MobilePay enable in the url.  And maybe a fewer-steps participant search process.  Work in progress!  So far so good for you guys?  Keep us posted if anything cool comes out of it! ?
  • Hey Tanna Lewis‍

I work with Brian and we just started investigating this about a month ago. We are going to test MobilePay and Blackbaud checkout at a remote site this week. I can update ya on how it goes Friday. (testing Thursday)

Both solutions definitely work, we just want to prove them out in the field.

The idea is to start small and get everyone on board and then roll it out more. We are still figuring out how to get MobilePay to work on API forms. We use API forms almost everywhere.

    Hopefully some good findings soon.

Hi Phil (and thanks again for your and Brian's helpful overview of your email subscribe/unsubscribe and engagement factors)!  So glad to hear you'll circle back on how this all plays out - we intend to go fully API eventually so I'll need to reconfigure at that point and of course I'd love to hear any pointers!  Good luck on Thursday!!
