Pasting From Word in IE

Options
Is there a known issue involving the addition of unwanted line breaks when pasting text from a Word document in Internet Explorer? We recently upgraded to 6.51 and are finding that IE creates layout issues that other browsers do not. Has anyone found a work around other than using a better browser?

  • Hello Jamie,

This is an industry issue with how word handles markups. Unfortunately that means this has the potential to happen regardless of the software or browser you are using. When designing for web or email it is not recommended to work in something like word first. For NetCommunity I would say always work inside the editor in the software.

    Thank you,

    Karen

I thought this was one of the improvements we were expecting in 6.51.

Working inside the editor IS the best way to avoid the need to clean additional Word markup, but we also want to do as much as possible for users who are more comfortable generating initial content in Word.

One of the new features of 6.51 (https://www.blackbaud.com/newbbnc) is improved Copy-from-Word functionality, focused on maintaining the layout of copied material.

There are still, however, a lot of variables that could contribute to this problem even in 6.51 (particularly in IE, which tends to lag behind other browsers in terms of performance and compliance):
    • browser version (IE8/IE9)
    • version of Word (07/10)
    • source document content (tables/bullets/images/etc)
    • content/part being edited (Formatted Text & Images part/Email/Layout HTML)
