Please could you enable users to reuse old usernames if they are no longer being used?

Options
It's really inconvenient that there is no way of reusing a username once it has been used once. As a SuperAdmin trying to set myself up on NetCommunity I've now banned myself from using the two most obvious usernames for my work account and apparently I can never use them again because of the way the system is set up. I think at least SuperAdmins should be able to make old usernames available again please!

  • Hey Victoria,

We can totally reuse old usernames.

Please use these steps to undelete the old username https://www.blackbaud.com/files/suppo...

Once it's undeleted we can change the username to DONOTUSE or INVALID or something like that, then delete it again.

Now you'll be able to make a new user account with the same old username.

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks!

    Karen
  • I think you may even be able to permanently delete the username rather than needing to undelete and then delete it again. At least I think if you go to Users, tick the 'deleted' filter and then delete the users there it should allow you to reuse their login.
  • Ah, fantastic! Two very swift responses and a solution that worked. Thanks so much, Karen and Warren!

We had just been told in our training session that this just wasn't possible so I'm really pleased that this isn't the case.

    Best wishes,

    Victoria
  • How do you permanently delete a user? I have been able to delete a user but they still come up in the deleted filter. Is there a way to get rid of them forever? Because if that functionality was available, that'd help a lot!
  • Had a look and the way to do it is thus: Find the deleted user by ticking 'deleted' and then Find in the user admin area. Then edit the user and change the login to DELETEDXXXX where XXXX is some random number. Once you have done this the username should become available for others to use.

Kind of along the lines of Karen's response but I am not sure you need to undelete the old username unless there are other complications I can't see.

A permanent delete would have been better but does not seem to be an option.

    Cheers

    Warren
