Problem with format of date displaying in IE

The grey text for date of birth format (as part of the registration form) does not seem to display in Internet Explorer and this has caused confusion for some of our alumni registering. It is possible to resolve this so that the date format shows in all browsers? Thanks.

Shell, the reason for this is the placeholder attribute is not fully supported on IE9 and below. You will need to also add in a value attribute as well as a CSS style attribute to turn the text the same grey as the default styling of placeholder text.
