Does BBNC strip unrecognised tags from Layout HTML?

Options
I'm attempting to create a Layout using HTML5 but it appears that the "main" element is being stripped out, is this the case?

If so, how can I get around this? Are there any other elements that are likely to be stripped out?

  • Hey Joff,

My guess is that things shouldn't be stripped at the layout level. This can happen with HTML in FTI parts, in which case we'd tell you to use an unformatted text part, but that's at the page or template level.

If it's happening at the layout level we'd want to investigate further, so I recommend creating a case with support.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks Karen, yes it's within the layout - after saving the layout with the main tag and re-opening to edit the tag is gone.

I'll raise a ticket with support
  • Hi Karen,

Further to this, Andrew at Blackbaud support has confirmed this is the case:

"My understanding is that the HTML5 element is not currently supported across all main browsers at the current time. For this reason, it will be stripped out in BBNC"

Could you please escalate this issue to an idea or a bug? I don't feel that it is appropriate for BBNC to decide what is or isn't valid HTML - as this case proves, it can get it wrong.
  • Hey Joff,

I apologize for the confusion. There's not a way to escalate through this form. Have you reached out to Andrew and asked him to escalate it?

    Thank you,

    Karen
  • Hi Karen,

It was Andrew that suggested posting it on here as an Idea :)
  • Hi Karen,

If BBNC is going to strip valid HTML tags that it doesn't support, can we please have a list of supported/unsupported tags added as an Idea for the future so other developers/designers can refer to it?
  • Hey Joff,

I apologize for the confusion. It may be correct that it's a suggestion, but the request to escalate and the request for a list of HTML tags would need to be handled through a case. It's not something we can commit to investigating over the forms. If anything about this needs to be posted here afterwards, Andrew can do that.

    Thanks!

    Karen
