NC app for Android/iOS/Win Phone

Options
We need an app for Android, iOS, Windows Phone so that parents can lookup contact info from the directories and also view the school calendar. This app could also push out content like school closures and important info. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE ASAP!

  • The mobile RE app if very close to what schools need. If you could develop a mobile EE app that either went back to EE or accessed a set of web optimized OCC pages, that would be huge for schools.
  • Wouldn't a responsive or mobile template take care of most of this? Not the push notifications, but you can use email for that.
  • Hey Dusty, as Peter mentioned, the web site could be done through setting up mobile stylesheets.

In regards to creating something that will send push notifications to your parents, a "generic" BBNC app couldn't do that, you would need your own mobile app that parents could then download from their respective app marketplaces.

This might be something that we could do as a sort of customization, but it would likely be a fairly large project. It wouldn't be technically possible for us, though, to create one app that would do this. Likely the best way to go is exactly what Peter suggested, a combination of mobile stylesheets, and email.
  • You can develop a hybrid app/web front end where the bulk of the work is done on your site using NetCommunity and mobile stylesheets and then the 'app' just does the push notifications and showing the web site. This sounds complex but should not really be too difficult to do.

We have done several apps where the front end is a web site and the app just shows the site. Adding push notifications to it would not be particularly difficult. Sure others could help out along those lines too.

Renweb offers a parent app through the App Store for $5/year and it is updated with the current contact information yearly.

My school is paying more than double the cost of Renweb because we were lead to believe that Blackbaud was the better system. This needs to be addressed.
