What are the differences between a message and a newsletter?

Options
We've been using "messages" to send out our monthly newsletter, and I wonder whether we'd get any benefit from using "newsletters" instead. One challenge we're having is that in addition to emailing the newsletter, we want to post a copy on our site; currently, that requires copying the HTML view of the newsletter; creating a new page; creating a new part; and pasting the newsletter into the HTML view of the new part. That's a tedious process, and it seems there ought to be a better way.

  • Hey Al,

The main thing to remember is who controls the recipients.

Messages use lists, which ultimately give you control over who receives the message. Yes a user can opt out, but you can also remove or add them.

Newsletters do not use lists, which gives the recipient control. You cannot opt anyone in or out, they must do it themselves through the email preferences form.

    Thanks!
