How to nest tables/insert table within a table?

As I understand it, it's not possible to insert a table within a table using the WYSIWYG editor for emails. Can anyone tell me what HTML code to use to insert a table that way and also whether I can then edit that nested table using the WYSIWYG editor? If not, how do I make sure I have the right number of columns and rows using the code?
