  • Warren - I haven't been able to get this to work in Chrome. We are using NC 6.58 and Chrome version 37. I've installed the plugin and even restarted Chrome then pasted in my html for the email and saved but the comments still appear.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

    Firefox installation instructions:

    1. You need to install the Greasemonkey add-on (yes that really is the name!) and as directed restart Firefox:

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/

    2. Download the userscript from here and install it (you'll be prompted): http://www.smartthing.co.uk/clients/smartthing/mobileemails.user.js

This is fairly untested but should work - as always feedback appreciated.

Unfortunately IE is fairly bad at the 'add-on' department so it is just Firefox and Chrome for now...

    Warren,

First I want to say a HUGE thank you for these add-ons; they are a much needed solution. I've started testing responsive email designs in BBNC & they're reading beautifully on all devices.

With the release of 6.58 & the return of IE support, do you have any plans create a similar add-on for it?

Thank you again for your hard work & helping us email programmers out!
  • Thanks so much for your reply Warren. This is great!

  • Good question. It just needs not to strip the mobile stylesheet out of the HTML email content. I suspect it can be done and should have an answer soon. We have an email newsletter builder that outputs in BBNC compatible format so you don't need to edit the content in the standard editor and it takes care of resizing etc. It also produces mobile friendly HTML but we have not yet tested this feature in BBNC - will do shortly.
  • Hi all,

    FREEBIE!

We have packaged this up and anyone can get to it for FREE here:

    https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mobile-emails-for-netcomm/kldkbcooacjoiohpaminogljmkoelddf

This is in the Chrome Web Store (above link) so very easy to install as long as you are using Google Chrome!. You should be able to edit your emails and if you go to View > HTML in the editor you should see your mobile CSS there but WITHOUT any surrounding <!-- and --> markers (which are the comments).

    Feedback appreciated.
  • I would love to give that a try, Warren. It sounds great! Thank you.
  • Warren,

I'd love to kick the tires with you on this! It's a MUCH needed tool.

Thanks for you hard work and resolution!
  • Hi,

Quick update for everyone on this... it works at last...

We have managed to get around the problem by writing a little Google Chrome extension that stops the editor commenting out mobile CSS. You just add it to Chrome and it makes it possible in BBNC to save email messages, acknowledgements etc. with mobile CSS in them and also to then send these via NetCommunity without it being stripped out.

The basic issue is the email editor in BBNC which is causing the issues and the add-in gets around that. You can also use it in Firefox if you have the appropriate add-on.

If anyone is interested we can let you have a try of this out on a per person basis. May turn it into a properly supported tool if lots want it. As a caveat, it has only been through basic testing thus far but it is proven to work and there is no reason why it should cause any issues with BBNC itself as it is literally just enabling the saving of the mobile CSS (uncommented rather than commented out - technically not a big change).

    Cheers

  • I'd love to know if this is planned or not as well. I've tried using mobile programming, but BBNC seems to strip it out currently.
  • I, too, am looking to build emails with responsive designs. Has anyone heard any news on whether this would be a built-in feature coming soon to Blackbaud?
  • I was hoping the new mobile email templates in the NetCommunity 6.55 update would address this issue, but it doesn't look like it. All that makes them mobile-friendly, as far as I can tell, is a 525px width, which still doesn't fit well on my Galaxy S3 screen without going into landscape mode. BBNC really needs to respond to the need for media queries, so we can keep up with the trends.
  • I was wondering this as well.

Most email software doesn't strip out styles at it makes it impossible to use media queries. Since responsive design is the standard now it would seem like this feature should already be implemented, or on the short list to get added.

Is there some sort of workaround to allow for the use of media queries?
