Prevent overwriting during linking process

When linking transactions to constituents, is there a way to prevent information from being overwritten? We are having a "Moms" event, and the registrants are the moms of our students. When I link these transactions to the couple's RE record, the mom's first name overwrites the dads first name. This occurs when I link...before i even download the transactions.

I think I figured it out. There are radio buttons to accept or reject specific fields. Simply need to reject the first name.
