Can I group events in Online Express?

Options
Can I get two or more events to show up on one form in Online Express? We offer theater productions on several consecutive nights and would like registrants to be able to choose which night they want to attend on one form.

Hi Susan. Online Express events currently supports a single event per form. Some customers have been able to successfully use participant attributes in clever ways to collect extra info, others set up multiple forms with unique marketing for each event.

More advanced multi-event forms are something we may consider in the future. Other customers interested in this idea and future Discovery around it are encouraged to "+1" this submission.
Hi Matt, I just have to echo how valuable it would be to allow group events in Online Express. My organization would use this all the time!

This is huge for us as well and we need to have that as a function. Can't it be treated like Membership forms which allow multiple member levels?

This is extremely necessary for alumni offices who have weekends such as Homecoming where we offer multiple events.

This would be a very useful feature for our office, since we also host multiple events over Homecoming. Thank you.

I want to add my support to this. We do a "Reunion Weekend" with several events to choose from. As it is, we cannot use On-Line Express for this...and it is one of our biggest and most important events.
  • I wanted to share this workaround. We used units/"price types" to sell multiple events in one Raiser's Edge event module. Here is the link: https://give.fiu.edu/alumni-events/si...

We also offer a package, where they pay one price and pick the events they will attend. For this, we used the event participant attributes: https://give.fiu.edu/alumni-events/si...

    Hope this helps!
  • Well, that's one workaround, and I hope it works for you but it does not appear to be an ideal solution. When using the multiple events link (which is what we are doing), the form becomes a mile long, with repeated requests for the guests name.

Another obstacle is that I cannot use attributes to get information specific to just one event...if I add an attribute to the form, it must be filled in for each event that is selected.

In the package option, I note that the prices do not change when multiple items are selected in the package. So, everyone is charged the same price regardless of which (or how many) events they attend. That is OK when the events are relatively inexpensive, but over a reunion weekend we have multiple meals, cocktail receptions, etc. We really need the pricing to be dynamic.
  • My work around was to create an Online Registration that included the two packages and during the batch process, I would go and apply the money to the right events. It worked nicely but it was a pain.

I want to add my support to this as well. Like Mr. Patke, we also to a "Reunion Weekend," which encompasses several events. It's very inconvenient for folks to have to fill out registration details five times for one RSVP if they are coming to multiple Reunion Weekend events. Using price types to sell multiple events also does not work when you are later checking them in all weekend.

Matt - has there been any development with this issue in mind?

    Thanks,

  • I would like to add my +1 to this post.  We are new to Online Express and just came across this problem with one of our first events.  Please make this a priority!

I am not sure if this topic has moved along any further but i would also like to add my +1 to this.

    Thanks

  • Is there any update on if/when this feature will be ready?  It's something that we've been asking about for a couple years now.  The workarounds that exist are clunky at best.  Hope to see something soon! -Kate

Below is a screencast that shows how to have multiple events for Reunion Weekend using participant attributes that still gives you lots of flexibility on pricing (early bird, all-in, a la carte, etc.). It starts with the registration experience, then goes into Raiser's Edge setup, then OLX setup, and ends with a custom crystal report that gives full breakdown. I wish that Yes/No Participant attributes could render as checkboxes or toggles in OLX as a CSS option, but otherwise, it works and is not too painful. Hopefully you all have fewer events that you want to track than we do!

  • This looks great. One question...I'd like to see how the experience for the end-user looks when you have the multiple payments.  You allude to this, indicating this willl happen once the "early bird" pricing is over.  How does it look when a user signs up for 2-3 different events, each with its own price? Does it then ask them to fill out extensive information for each one of the items on the form? That has been my experience. I'd love to see that demonstrated.
