Microsoft Word not working in RE

Options
When I try and create letters using mail I get the error saying Microsoft Word has stopped working and "The Remote Server Machine is Unavailable." Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

  • Yes!  You need to hit Control-Alt-Delete and head to the task manager.  Right click on your merge document and select "Bring it to Front".  That should allow your merge to complete.

    Good Luck!

  • In my experience, when a user is having this problem, there is a Microsoft fixt that can help.

Program hangs when performing a mail merge in Office 2007 or Office 2010

  • We're having the same problem using Raiser's Edge. Very frustrating! Anyone have a good solution?

  • Make sure that you have only one instance of Word running.  If you have performed multiple merges (printed envelopes, letters, etc.), you may have many instances of Word still running.  Sometimes Raiser's Edge fails to close them upon completion of a task.  Start the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl +Alt + Delete and select Task Manager) OR Right Click on the Task Bar and Select Start Task Manager.  Then in Task Manager select the Processes Tab.  Scroll down and see if you see multiple listings of WINWORD.EXE.  If so, you will want to terminate them using "End Process."  You may want to check this frequently until Blackbaud fixes this bug again.
  • I have this same problem BUT I am on a mac in the hosted environment. As hard as I try to always close out of word, I sometimes get the "return to word" or "switch to RE" box message. It hangs and won't let me do either. I then force quite out of RE which is the only way to get the system to respond. It sounds like this is a bug. Macs have activity monitors not a task bar. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!
