Please share tips on preparing for a wealth screening

Options
Good afternoon,

I've not previously been involved in a wealth screening, though our database was screened in 2012.  Please share any advice regarding preparation before screeening and potential clean up after the screening.  We are planning to use Target Analytics with the import into RE.

Thank you,

Judy

  • Just do your best to make sure the name and address information is correct on the people you're having screened.  Other than submitting accurate information (so you're more likely to receive back accurate information) I don't recall doing any prep work.  When I went through a wealth screening with blackbaud I didn't have any clean up afterwards either.  I just created some queries based on the new ratings that were imported so we could see our results easier than looking them up one by one.

Thank you Eric!  I appreciate your feedback.
  • Judy - about a year ago we were comparing Target Analytics to two other thir party wealth screening products.  We submitted a group of donors for a sample analysis.  By far - Target Analytics gave us the best results.  Better accuracy in matching donors with the wealth information available.  As Eric said - make sure your address information - and your names - are as accurate and complete as possible.

    Have fun!
  • Target Analytics gave good results insofar as matching donors accurately, but the actual data provided is minimal. This year we're switching to using DonorSearch, which allows us to really drill down into donor records. With it, we'll be able to see business affiliations, amounts donated to other non profits, relationship info, basically anything that's a matter of public record. It's a much more robust tool.

Don't get me wrong - Target Analytics allowed us to build up our major gift program, but it's just difficult to suss out anything more than the broad outlines of a prospect's actual giving profile.

Interesting that you said your records came back with little info.  We just did a screening and there is lots of info, on philanthropic gifts to other orgs with amounts  and affilations to others.... so not sure to what you might be referring, unless you have a population of folks in your database that just do not have any activity or fly under the radar?  just my two cents

Thanks Christine.  I'll let you and Ryan know how it goes and what sort of information we get.

Thank you to everyone!  Our Target Analytics screening went well.  I did find in order to export the information we need I had to rename the source by exporting all the information and then importing it under the new source name.  Unfortunately, I should have catered that source name to EACH rating so we could get to just one rating we need, but I'll get there.
