query on cumulative gifts

Options
Hi All,

Since I'm a newbie to Raisers Edge, I'd like to know how to run query for donors who have given $1 million+ cumulatively for all time. I did create a query but it lists each transaction. I'd like to have the donor listed one time and the total amount of their gifts for all time.

Thanks so much for your help!

Create a constituent query and for your criteria go to near the bottom of the list to Summary Information.  Get to the options for gift amount and enter a criteria of greater than or equal to #1M.  That should do it.  You can filter on funds, dates, gift types etc. (Note: you probably do want to filter on gift types or if you include both pledge and payments it will double count.)
  • Hi, Thanks for your response Joann. This is how I ran the query and it listed each individual gift for each person. Possibly would you know how to list the person's name one time and the total amount they gave?

    Cheers

    Kathleen,

Check your output fields.  All you need to select is the name.  Grand total will output automatically as criteria.  Do not have it show gift amount- that will list each 'gift amount'.
  • Kathleen - Not sure if you should be using query to get information about your gifts. I would suggest that you use Export or Reports ONLY for reporting out on gifts.
    • You need to be very careful when reporting out on gift information, as there can be some nuances around gift types, pledges, soft credits, etc.
    • Not to scare you but please be cautious and carefully review your final results.

  • Thanks Gina for the heads up. I've already run into some of what you're speaking about when running queries vs. reports/exports. It can be tricky.

    Ciao!

As a newbie -- let me share with you or remind you -- depending on how new you are that Queries are designed to group constituents for you by criteria -- it is not designed to be utilized as the final output format.  A canned report or export is used for that, and you can always pull your query through canned reports and exports.
  • Thanks Christine. I truly  appreciate that you reminded me of a query vs report/export!
