Redefining Email Types after the Update

Options
Prior to the recent update, our organization would identify emails as "email, email2, etc."

With the recent RE update, I have been rethinking our email types. Perhaps it would make sense

for them to be changed to personal, work, etc...similiar to phone types?

Since the recent RE update, has anyone updated their email types?

It seems to be the next logically step? Thoughts?

  • We use "Email" for the primary email, and "Business Email" if the primary email is personal and we also have business email. Beyond that, it's numbered, or, in the case of our alumni who are currently in college (we're a K-12 school), linked to the college address.
  • We use eHome and eWork.  Makes the data entry easy to do.  Fax numbers are faxHome and faxWork.  Then phone numbers are Home, SeasonalHome, MainBusiness, and DirectBusiness.  I prefer, whenever possible, to keep table lists with only one or two entries starting with the same letter for speed of data entry.  (And don't forget, you can manually change the order in a table...for example, Kentucky comes before Kansas in our States table, and Cincinnati is the first "C" entry in our Cities table, because they are more frequently used.)
  • Great suggestions! Thank you for your input.
  • We break our email addresses down by personal, business, student, etc.  But we also have their preferred email coded as "BBNC" so it's identified to be used with NetCommunity.  If a record does not have the BBNC phone type then it does not get pulled into our email blasts, even if they have a personal or business email listed.  Something to think about if your organization also used NetCommunity.
  • Maggie - In the updated RE, I thought there was an indicator for preferred email?

I would have thought BBNC would have then chosen the email with that indicator for pulling into emails, rather than having to continue the practice of having a specific email type for this purpose.
