How do you delete a custom field created for donation form?

When designing donor screens for a donation form, we are able to create custom fields, but do not see a way of changing their names or data types or deleting them. Can a custom field created via "New" under the "Select data elements to include in this form:" section be deleted?

You cannot delete these once created because although it may not be used on that specific form, it could be in use on another form. You just have to create a new data element if you need it to be slightly different. This is why I always encourage clients to be very careful before creating a new data element. It can quickly clutter your list. Saying this however, you might open a Support ticket and see if they can remove it. You may have to confirm the data element isn't being used anywhere but they might be able to do it. Please post back here what you find out.

This is a great weakness in the system that should have been addressed in the past 3 years. The system should be able to easily know if a custom data element is in use on a form somewhere, and not allow it to be deleted; but if one is not in use, allow for it's deletion.


This comes in handy when, like my issue now - I created one, it ended up NOT giving the options I need, so I need to totally change it or delete and start over, but cannot. I JUST created it, so the system should see that and allow for it to be deleted. This way does not leave any room for trial and error in creating a working custom field.
