Preble Street, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, has been working since 1975 to provide nationally recognized best practice social services that meet urgent needs and end hunger and homelessness for individuals and families in Maine. Operating from seven sites in Portland, Lewiston, and Bangor, Preble Street programs include the Resource Center, Food Programs, Maine Hunger Initiative, Clinical Intervention Program, Veterans Housing Services, Logan Place, Florence House, Teen Center, Joe Kreisler Teen Shelter, First Place, the Anti-Trafficking Coalition, and Homeless Voices for Justice.

 

To maintain its legacy and promote its mission-driven and solutions-oriented vision, Preble Street seeks a highly skilled and experienced Grant Writer who is a passionate advocate for resolving homelessness, hunger and poverty and who has significant experience with both private and public funding sources and application processes.

 

Impeccable writing and editing skills are paramount. In addition to crafting proposals in a clear, compelling, and succinct manner, the successful candidate must be able to seek and synthesize information, be highly organized and self-motivated, possess an understanding of budgets as they relate to proposal development, and be able to work with and guide various agency stakeholders and stakeholder groups, both internal and external.

 

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Grant Writer will be responsible for researching, writing, assembling, submitting, and reporting on complex proposals to both public and private funders to support the agency’s $11 million annual budget, as well as special campaign efforts, to reinforce its service delivery models and advance promising partnerships that provide opportunities for individuals and families and transform the communities where they live.

 

The Grant Writer will be a seasoned professional with a bachelor’s degree, 5-7 years of writing experience and proven grant writing skills. This is a full-time, exempt position.
