The position

The Direct Marketing Coordinator plays a critical role in the acquisition, cultivation and stewardship of World Animal Protection’s donors and supporters and works collaboratively with the US development team, fundraisers in other country offices, and the international fundraising team in London. This position reports to the Direct Marketing Manager and will play a key role in raising over $4M in annual revenue and ongoing growth. Leveraging his/her direct marketing experience, the Direct Marketing Coordinator will be involved in all aspects of growing individual giving for the US office, including developing strategy, implementing and managing fundraising campaigns and monitoring and reporting results. He/she will also be involved in our efforts to engage our donors and increase their support through special fundraising activities and events, providing our donors with guidance on how to create and run simple fundraising events and leverage the support tools we offer. This role will have a significant impact on World Animal Protection fundraising activities and help to build the future of a growing global organization.



Main duties and responsibilities

  • Support the creation of direct marketing/individual giving fundraising campaigns, including writing copy for emails, direct mail, telemarketing, search engine marketing and the web site.
  • Coordinate offline and online production schedules.
  • Create and manage email marketing campaigns, using Engaging Networks email engine.
  • Coordinate the implementation of integrated marketing campaigns, participating in concept development and copy writing and owning the scheduling and tracking of appeals.
  • Assist in managing the direct marketing/individual giving budget, including securing, recording and filing expenses.
  • Assist with development of donor segmentation and testing strategies.
  • Gather data and facts from multiple departments and fundraising offices around the world for all individual giving work.
  • Help launch and develop community/peer-to-peer fundraising, including supporting donors with materials and tools they need to hold a successful fundraising event.
  • Work with the Development and Communications teams to compile performance reports on fundraising efforts and participate in team discussions on ways to improve performance.
  • Liaise with supporters and the public providing accurate and relevant information by telephone, letter and e-mail.
  • Partner with Database Manager and development team to ensure accurate donor information is entered into the database, as well as the accurate processing and reporting of gift transactions.
  • Other responsibilities as needed to support the Direct Marketing Manager.

Qualifications and skills

  • 2+ years of experience in direct marketing and knowledge of direct marketing production processes
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills are required
  • Computer proficiency in a Windows-based PC environment and strong knowledge of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Keen, interpersonal communication skills; clear communicator
  • Comfortable meeting and speaking with donors
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and in taking initiative
  • Organized and detail-oriented with ability to prioritize and manage time well
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Knowledge of and interest in animal welfare issues
