Changing Annual Appeal Code in Recurring Gifts

Options
I was wondering how others handled recurring gifts for their annual employee campaigns. Currently, at the start of each campaign, I create a new recurring gift for each employee and then enter their recurring gift payments until the next campaign, then create a new recurring gift. This is done even if an employee wishes his/her gift to be ongoing from the prior year. Is there a better way to handle these ongoing gifts rather than creating a new recurring gift each year? Should their gifts just be updated with a new appeal code each year, or is it best to actually keep creating new gifts each year?

Thanks for any input.

Patti, there was a recent post on this topic.  You may want to search for and read that also.  So, when you run your annual employee campaign do they designate a specific amount or just leave it open to take $X perpetually?  What is the use of your appeal code that you said would be updated?  Are employees being asked to give to a different appeal each year?

For our employee annual campaign I pretty enter all as pledges.  I'm running recurring payroll deductions for capital and recurring membership donations.  For these, I quit entering new recurring gifts each year and just keep gift going.  I can get any needed info by filtering on gift dates.

What you do, to me, is determined by what you need to pull out in reports.  What effect would not creating new gifts each year have?  Any?  Can you still pull needed reports?  Does $ still go in correct fund? I'm big on not creating extra work for myself.  laugh

Bottom line, do what works best for you.
