Role Summary

 

The Associate Director of Development Database and Analytics leads the data management team that is responsible for the maintenance and administration of the fundraising database for the capture and analysis of Development’s fundraising practice, trends and reporting. S/he oversees the creation and implementation of business policies, processes, and procedures to promote an exemplary level of data integrity in the database through training, auditing and data entry. Among other priorities, s/he guides the team to ensure excellence in gift, pledge and grant management; cross-divisional reconciliation; and internal and external reporting. In close collaboration with the Associate Director of Development Research, s/he helps implement moves management systems, metrics and outcomes that support staff, team and divisional goal-setting and evaluation. S/he evaluates Development’s system needs and offers software- and cloud-based solutions in partnership with Information Technology. 

 





Essential Duties Include:




  • Develop and oversee an information systems strategic plan that aligns with Development’s priorities and anticipates data storage and report needs.
  • Manage the fundraising database for the Development Division, including:
    • Oversee the creation and periodic updating of all fundraising operational policies and procedures related to the database, including the review and editing of NPR Development’s Policies and Procedures handbooks for fundraisers.
    • Oversee unit and divisional reporting that is consistent and reliable. Provide analysis of trending data and business progress including weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual metrics, financial reports and other data presentations.
  • Ensure compliance with IRS rules and guidelines while implementing NPR’s gift acceptance policies and overseeing gift processing and management, including:
    • Maintain and enhance the data structure, business rules and other functions.
    • Oversee data integrity through training, standards management and enforcement; and data quality audit.
    • Periodically evaluate overall system and alternative solutions to improve overall function across the division. Make recommendations for upgrades and acquisition of new resources as appropriate. 
    • Work closely with Information Technology to facilitate system and divisional resources.
  • Oversee unit and divisional reporting that is consistent and reliable. Provide analysis of trending data and business progress including weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual metrics, financal reports and other data presentations. 
  • Ensure compliance with IRS rules and guidelines while implementing NPR's gift acceptance policies and overseeing gift processing and amanagement, including: 
    • Tax receipting.
    • Pledge payment management and reserve analysis and recommendations.
    • Interactions with the Gift Acceptance Committee.
  • Provide orientation, onboarding and ongoing database training for new and existing staff and power users. Leverage database power users group to address operational challenges; conceptualize and implement short-term projects to enhance system usage; and respond to changing staff roles and needs.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Development Research, expand the division’s moves management and analytics programs, adding new capabilities in prospect scoring, predictive analytics and other best practices as appropriate.
  • Supervise all aspects of the Development Donor Database team. Set goals, assign projects and tasks, and provide feedback to ensure high quality performance.

Qualifications:




Education:

Bachelor’s degree required or combination of education and experience. Advance degree or professional certification in database management is preferred.

 

Required Skills:

  • Minimum of five years’ experience in development database management or related field, with three to five plus years of progressive leadership experience. Experience with capital campaigns is highly desirable
  • Understanding of IRS requirements related to philanthropic gift management.
  • Familiarity with The Raiser’s Edge or comparable systems and database programming.
  • Minimum of three years’ supervisory experience required.  Ability to manage a productive and efficient unit, effectively delegate responsibilities and foster a team environment.
  • Knowledge of big data trends and analytics products.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and gain the respect and support of various constituencies, including NPR leadership, colleagues, and member stations.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated problem solver with good judgment and excellent organizational skills who can multi-task, make the best of short and long timelines, and prioritize work in an evolving environment.
  • Excellent communication and persuasive skills (both written and oral), including ability to interface with database end users. Ability to analyze and condense information and present it in a visual and narrative manner.
  • Experience providing one-on-one and grouping trainings and/or presentations.
  • Proven track record of leading projects, maintaining, applying and sharing best practices.  Project management experience is a plus.
  • Strong personal work ethic, collaborative, and results-oriented; combined with a sense of humor and perspective.
