PURPOSE OF POSITION:   The Senior Database Manager is responsible for the setup, maintenance and proper use of the organization’s Raiser’s Edge database. This position serves as liaison among the database, users and management, and provides strategic direction on data storage and withdrawal. This includes ensuring that gifts are properly coded and communicated and managing the retrieval process of information from the database. The Senior Database Manager is responsible for ensuring complete and accurate documentation and providing effective Raiser’s Edge support to staff and consultants. This position supervises the Development Manager, collaborates closely with the Associate Director, Annual Fund, and oversees the RE-related work of (but does not manage) the Data and Donor Services Manager, the Development Coordinator and the Development Associate.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Maintenance
  1. Maintain the overall integrity and quality of The Raiser’s Edge database according to a mutually-agreed upon schedule and task list.
  2. Implement and maintain security protocols in The Raiser’s Edge database for all users.
  3. Upgrade The Raiser’s Edge on a regular basis. Lead all aspects of software version upgrades, including planning, project management, feature testing and business process redesign.
  4. Create and implement data oversight functions that ensure that a high standard of ‘clean’ data is being maintained. Work with gift processing staff and train other staff responsible for data entry to ensure quality control.
 

Lists, Reporting and Analysis
  1. Run and oversee the creation of highly complex queries, mailings, exports and reports in support of fundraising efforts. Ensure that queries, mailings, exports and reports are kept organized and up to date.
  2. Coordinate with the accounting department to ensure that gift data is properly coded and reconciled with the accounting software.
 

Staff Training and Support
  1. Mentor the Development Manager and Data & Donor Services Manager and help to train them and grow their proficiency in Raiser’s Edge.
  2. Document, review and update practices and procedures to increase efficiency and enhance performance of development department operations; provide feedback on improvements or changes to business processes and documentation provided by users.
  3. Create and offer trainings for new and existing users as well as to all users when software updates occur. Review standard trainings (through Blackbaud or other) and make suggestions to specific staff as warranted.
  4. Ensure that The Raiser’s Edge processes and procedures are clearly documented and kept up to date.
  5. Support colleagues by investigating problems and recommending solutions relative to any and all database functions, leveraging IT and Blackbaud Support relationships as necessary.
  6. Organize and oversee job-related tasks to be completed by temporary staff.
  7. Other duties as assigned, which support the Food Bank’s goal of increasing fundraising in support of programs and services that benefit our community.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:



 
  1. Successful, progressively responsible experience managing The Raiser’s Edge fundraising database and an interest in learning more about The Raiser’s Edge database. Knowledge of Crystal Reports, advanced Microsoft Excel and/or Access, and CRM systems a plus, but not required.
 
  1. Familiarity and experience supporting complex direct marketing fundraising functions (e.g., direct mail, monthly and workplace giving and online fundraising techniques, including highly segmented donor mailing lists and procedures) highly desirable.
 
  1. Experience directly supervising full-time staff.
 
  1. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey concepts and procedures verbally and in writing and to build effective working relationships. Experience in answering inquiries and requests in a friendly and direct manner.
 
  1. Ability to work well under pressure, with a wide variety of people and departments, and to prioritize tasks and complete tasks independently with little direct supervision.
 
  1. Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to think creatively and strategically.
 
  1. Well-organized, attentive to detail, and ability to work in an environment of scheduled deliverables where requirements can change.

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
