Under the direction of the Director of Interactive Media in the External Relations and Advancement Marketing Communications unit, the E-Communications Manager will run the campus wide e-mail marketing system, a sophisticated web based e-mail broadcast, solicitation and external constituent database application.  The current system is Blackbaud/Convio. This web-based e-mail marketing system sends out about 10 million e-mails a year and is available to the 14 Schools and Colleges, University Relations programs, International House, the California Alumni Association, and the Career Center to promote the University’s advancement goals via e-communications.  The E-Communications Manager advances the University’s development goals by providing a centralized, secure, and reliable online method for e-communications to alumni, parents, friends, donors, and students.  The position is also responsible for customer service, analysis of metrics, and staying abreast of advancements in e-communications and solicitations.




Responsibilities:



The E-Communications Manager is responsible for managing e-mail marketing. The scope includes end user training, defining and enforcing proper use, creating and distributing documentation, running the e-mail user groups, creating e-mail templates, sending out and managing electronic newsletters including the monthly Berkeley Online to 170,000, helping ensure data integrity against the Cal Advancement Data System (CADS), trouble-shooting end user support issues, submitting bug reports/trouble tickets, and managing companion applications such as data import utilities that support e-solicitations. This position also plays a key role in communications with campus units on content development, documentation, training, and template distribution. Other responsibilities include producing reports, analyzing metrics, segmenting data, and providing recommendations based on information gathered. This position is also responsible for producing communications or instruction using the web, audio, video, and other electronic media, which may involve writing, editing, and designing, in addition to production of HTML templates and e-mail templates.



Qualifications:



Thorough knowledge in HTML, XHTML, and CSS.

Thorough knowledge in creating clear, easy-to-navigate, informative, well designed, and highly functional e-communications.

Thorough knowledge of e-mail communications and online communications.

Thorough knowledge of constituent databases.

Thorough knowledge of web and e-mail metrics reporting and segmentation, including open rates, click-through, and A/B testing.

Thorough knowledge electronic communication media, including content management systems and/or relevant web applications used for web site production, and design and web production specific computer application programs.

Thorough knowledge in computer applications and web based tools, image handling, print publishing and online publishing

Solid knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, strategies and best practices.

Solid knowledge of institutional products and services.

Knowledge of the campus including its achievements, mission, vision, goals, objectives and infrastructure.

Knowledge of customer service standards/procedures.

Organizational skills and skills in file creation, maintenance and management.

Written and interpersonal communication skills.

Bachelors degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
