Purpose

The Director-Senior Development Researcher will work in concert with the other Senior Development Researcher (Director) to evaluate and analyze data on prospects/suspects to determine the top prospects/suspects based on capacity and any affinity indicators.

 

Essential Functions

1. Review and screen segments of the database to identify Major Gift prospects/suspects. Work closely with the Associate VP and VP for Development in developing a streamlined approach to and the execution of prospect/suspect identification functions. Prioritize most promising Major Gift prospects/suspects. Communicate information weekly about prospects/suspects to the Associate VP along with any recommendations for assignment based on completed research. 2. Develop a pipeline of Major Gift prospects/suspects. 3. Work closely with the Associate VP of Development to determine the role of Prospect Research in the Capital Campaign. Develop standards and methods as needed to structure the campaign. Proactively seek educational opportunities to learn best practices for Prospect Research in Capital Campaigns. 4. Complete research requests to aid in qualification, cultivation and stewardship of Major Gift prospects/suspects. Write full profiles. Maintain Development Board recruitment lists. Assist in travel preparation by identifying top Major Gift prospects/suspects in geographical areas. Conduct ResearchPoint data imports and exports to Raiser's Edge for analysis. Vet results of WealthPoint screenings. Research addresses/phone numbers that are unobtainable by Development Assistants. 5. Maintain ResearchPoint database. Keep Raiser's Edge up-to-date with wealth information. Update Raiser's Edge with new biographical data found by WealthPoint. Maintain log-ins, passwords, and levels of access for all Development staff. Provide training as needed on the usage of ResearchPoint. Maintain the Policies and Procedures manuals on Research Point for the Development Office. 6. Process print and electronic news for updates on alumni and prospects/suspects. Update Raiser's Edge with new information. Notify the appropriate Development staff with new information. 7. Maintain Prospect Research Policies and Procedures manuals and records of completed tasks to track progress toward annual goals and to document work load. Communicate recommendations as formulated from research and data analysis of prospects/suspects to Associate VP. Employ industry standards of ethical use of information and research practices. Educate Development staff in basic information retrieval. Use APRA and other industry educational opportunities to remain current on research best practices 8. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. 5 to 7 years of prospect research experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 1 to 2 years project management experience. Experience with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising database. Experience with online databases and strong computer skills. Keen analytical ability and ability to synthesize complex information from diverse sources into useful deliverables for front-line fundraisers. Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree. Experience working in higher education. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and networking skills with large groups as well as with individuals. Experience using Crystal Reports to design and produce custom reports. Ability to work in a complex institutional environment where coordination, teamwork, and communication are essential.
