Acknowledgment Letter Templates

I am trying to get the Acknowledgement Letters stored within Raiser's Edge to open so that I can send them out for potential edits prior to our upcoming campaign.

If there are no letters meeting the criteria that are not acknowledged, and I choose Send to Word Merge Wizard, I can't open and view the letter.  I am assuming Raiser's Edge has these templates saved somewhere.  I want to be able to open and e-mail them (with all the merge codes in them) to the people who need to check them for  updated content.  Is there a way to access the letters to do this if there are no gifts that are Not Acknowledged?

I've never been able to pull these letters without going through a gift merge. What I ended up doing was flagging one of our past gifts to not acknowledged so that I could use that gift to open each letter. When each letter was opened, I saved a Word copy of it so that I now have a folder of all current and past letters in their merge field format for reference. There may be an easier way, but I wasn't able to find it.

Ugh Nikki - the whole inability to easily edit and create letters when you're not running a gift is one of my biggest pet peeves with RE. You can create a fake gift on a record, edit letter and delete gift, you can change letter status to 'not acknowledged' on a record and run it again or you can go to Configuration > Letters > Gift > choose your letter, in pop-up select Edit export. That will show you the fields the letter uses and give you the word doc. The letter will on appear on your list if you've created it the way you're supposed to in Configuration > Letters. I'm finding that most of my letters don't appear there as I've cheated and opened existing letter, edited and used Save As so I don't have to re-select fields and format each letter. Oh well...
