Matching Gifts

Options
We have some instances of of a gift being made by a constituent's business and then soft crediting the individual. A matching gift is then made by a third party. We can't seem to get the credit for the matching gift to the individual...only the business. Its almost like you would have to soft credit through two layers. Anyone have any experience with this? thanks!

Yes, RE has some limitations in the area of SC MGs.

Per KB BB426764 you can't put a MG on a SC (but solution below does have an 'instead' that I haven't tried).  There's limits on the reverse of that, too, if I remember correctly.  Contacted support several years ago about situation similar to yours.  They didn't have  way to SC like I prefered.

How to enter a matching gift for a constituent who donated through United Way

    Answer

When a constituent gives through the United Way, the United Way receives the hard credit. You can soft credit the individual, but you cannot add a matching gift to a soft credit. Instead:

    1. Ensure the organization is set up as a matching gift company for the individual.
    2. Enter a gift with an amount of $0 for the individual. On the Matching Gift tab, enter the amount of the company's match for the gift amount. This adds the matching gift pledge to the organization's record.
    3. On the matching gift company's constituent record, add the matching gift and apply it to the matching gift pledge.
