"Not Responding" Message when running Reports

Options

 Hi Everyone,

I have this issue every time I run a report that has to sift through a large amount of data, but it has now started happening with just about every report I do. Once I click preview, the box pops up that says it is working on generating the report. But after a short time the (Not Responding) shows up in the top bar. If I leave it alone it will eventually sort itself out and load the report (anywhere from 5-30 minutes later), but if I try and click on anything else in RE the entire program will stop functioning and force close.

Does this happen for anyone else? What is a typical load time for a report? I'm just trying to see if there's something I can do on my end or with our IT department to make this run more smoothly.

Thanks!

This also happens to us, even on reports that take less than a minute.  I don't think it changing to Not Responding is an issue, just let it run.  You probably can't do anything else in RE until the report finishes so there's no need to click on anything else in RE during that time.

I can't really say what the typical load time is for a report as there are many variables such as number of records in database and on report, criteria, type of report, number of users in RE at the time, and even hardware setup.  If anything ask your IT department if there is anyway to increase the server performance, maybe by adding more RAM.  Then again even with better performance the users may not see much of a difference on their end.

Thanks Josh! Glad I'm not the only one sitting and waiting impatiently at my desk! [:S] I'm still waiting for one as I type...

You may need to do the following: 1. Remove unnecessary old static queries. 2. Run database maintenance plan regularly. 3. Also on a workstation where you run your reports, perform disk cleanup operation. If you just do this your reports will run at least 20 times faster.

Mark- What does your database maintenance plan entail? I am working on doing some major clean up as our data has not been consistently maintained. This is probably where the root of my issue lies.

I will definitely do a disk cleanup and clear out any old static queries we don't need.

    Thanks!
