One gift with multiple restrictions

Options

We have donors making a single gift with multiple restrictions. We use gift attributes to identify the specific restriction. However, when I run reports based on a single restriction, the amount is inflated because the gift amount is the total donation not just the amount related to that specific restriction.  The Campaign, Fund, and Appeal are the same for each restriction so I can't use the split gift function.  Any ideas how to work around this?

Example: The donor asks to split their donation between two endowments.  We add the exact amount of each gift portion to the attribute comment.

Campaign = fy14-15 Endowment Campaign

Fund = LV Endowment

Appeal = Personal Solicit

Attribute = Life Care Endowment

Attribute = Spiritual Life Endowment

    The only way I could think of to work around this is to set up custom reports in Access or Crystal. Watch for the fact that attribute comments always export as text, so even though you have numbers in there, you'll have to tell whatever program you use to report to convert them to integers.

    How are other donors to the Life Care Endowment or the Spiritual Life Endowment identified? OK Just read a little more closely...by Attribute! I guess I would enter this as two gifts then. I assume it's too late to make each of the Endowments separate funds?

    Why are you using gift attributes and not funds? This is exactly what funds is for and it would work if you used it.

    Otherwise you will have to enter the gift as separate gifts with only one restriction per gift.

    Ditto, Melissa's question.  Why not funds?  The funds can have the same GL info if for finance they need to be in same account but that wouldn't make much sense to me if they are for different 'restrictions' to have them going into the same GL #.

    Just my 2 cents.
