Today's date for mail merge letter

Options

Hi!

I'm working our conventional mail merge. I currently have 20 different letters we use for thank you's. I don't want to use the gift date as the date of the letter, instead I want to use the date of the day I'm printing them. How do I go about that. The only option for date fields for RE is the "gift date" (long or short) as an option and neither of those dates is what I want to use.  Thanks for any/all help!

Assuming you are using Word to merge into (not sure if RE works with anything else) - you can add the print date in the template. Go into the letter to enter the template and in Word select Insert Date and Time. Select whatever format you like for the date, and ensure the box that says Update Automatically is checked. Then it will pull your actual merge/print date for the letter.

As Aldera posted, you set the date in formating the letter either with a specific date or today's date which will automatically update anytime you use the letter or open the file of letters.  The date for the letter is not an option in RE.  If you want something like tomorrow's date you'd need to enter that on the letter.

You said you're using 20 different letters.  Are you creating and setting them all up at this point?  If so, you'll need to do on each one.  Your other option would be to run them as you have them formatted and then do at replace function in word to change whatever date they bring in to today's date.
