The Information Technology (IT) Department of the National office in New York City is seeking applicants for a full-time Associate Director, Enterprise Database Systems.

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Director of Information Strategy and Technology, the Associate Director, Enterprise Database Systems provides strategic management for the ACLU's enterprise fundraising database system and associated reporting tools. The ACLU's fundraising technology supports 350+ users nationwide in the National Office and 53 affiliates. The Associate Director, Enterprise Database Systems is responsible for ensuring that fundraising technology meets the strategic needs of the ACLU's complex and continually evolving fundraising programs.  Beginning in 2014, the Associate Director, Enterprise Database Systems will be responsible for leading a needs assessment and RFP process to select our next generation of supporting technology including evaluation of using the development CRM to support the broader needs of ACLU's constituent management. The ideal candidate for this position is a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of end user business needs, an understanding of database and reporting technologies, including fundraising database systems and the ability to translate to and partner with technologists and supporting vendors.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the ACLU's enterprise development CRM system, related reporting tools, and support function to ensure it meets the growing needs and expectations of the ACLU's organizational fundraising stakeholders.
  • Manages evaluation and selection process for new business support systems.
  • Partners with ACLU staff to understand business needs and provide thoughtful leadership in the adaptation of business processes to technology platforms.
  • Oversees donor database support desk comprised of direct reporting staff, vendor staff and other ACLU subject matter experts.
  • Manages vendor software use, maintenance and improvements for fundraising (Donor Direct), ad hoc report writing (Infoview) and HelpDesk Tracking (Big Web Apps); monitors vendor performance to identify areas for improvement. 
  • For systems related improvements, manages the software release process to include clearly establishing goals and monitor progress by software vendors.
  • Oversees organizational report creation, delivery, and maintenance for key financial and fundraising reports through collaboration with all key stakeholders at National and Affiliate offices.
  • Has primary responsibility for negotiating and managing specified vendor contracts and relationships.
  • Monitors key performance indicators of the support function.
  • Guides staff in software testing, procedure development and training development and delivery.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate delivery of data products for National and Affiliates such as direct mail outputs, telemarketing and numerous other vendor interfaces.
  • Partners with training staff to develop end user training on enterprise tools.
  • Actively seeks emerging technologies and makes recommendations of how to incorporate them into current and emerging programs.
  • Works with finance department to define, implement and manage affiliate reimbursement process for provided services.

     

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience managing relational constituent databases, preferably in a non-profit federated organization.
  • 5+ years of experience managing report and query tools and applications.
  • Experience managing end user support, preferably using formal helpdesk methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of fundraising database systems and how they can be used to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supervisory or management experience in managing a dynamic hosted database system, and supporting user helpdesk.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with internal groups and outside consultants, supervise process and maintain integrity of organizational fundraising standards.
  • Experience managing technical and non-technical staff.
  • Knowledge of project management best practices.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing demands.
  • Assumes ownership of tasks assigned; performs responsibilities while demonstrating grace under pressure.
