Well, I did it

Options
Finally, my first real Crystal report that runs off the back end of RE. It's an adjusted gift report based off a SQL command on the database, that pulls constituent information, original gift information, adjusted gift information, highlights the changes in the report, and includes a double-entry type of accounting thing, with GL distributions and amounts. And it runs in seconds, based on a date range parameter that you put in.

I don't really have any questions. I'm just really psyched that this works and besides the couple of people I work with I'm not sure who to crow about it to besides you guys.

And if anyone is doing anything similar, I may be able to help.

Congrats!  I've been wanting to do the same, except I'll probably start with data and a report that is slightly less complex.  [;)]

Some quick questions: What prompted you to build the report this way?    Are you able to run it through Custom Reports in RE?  If not, how can staff run/view it?

    Thanks,

    Josh

Thanks guys. What prompted me to do it was that basically our business systems manager had to do a bunch of manual typing of GL lines in order to create journal entries for our former accounting software. So I wanted to see if I could automate the process. Now that we're integrated with FE, it's less useful than it was before, but it still is useful for recordkeeping purposes.

And no, this isn't available through custom reports - the person who needs to run it has a full installation of Crystal Reports, access to the RE server, and can just run it herself. I'm looking into how to make these things available to everyone, pulling from RE but running outside of RE, but I haven't quite gotten it figured out yet. We have a lot of moves management stuff that we want to do that RE just can't handle through export and custom reports, and I think this is a start toward moving away from that.

Thanks James, please keep us all apprised of your progress. It is definitely something that could benefit alot of us!

Well done! It's so hard when you the co-workers when your co-workers have no clue on the work in getting a custom report to work! :)
