Planned Gifts

I am wondering if someone could shed some light[I]:

 We recently added the Planned Giving Module.  In the past gifts have been entered as cash or a pledge was put in and a pay cash followed for Planned Gifts.  I am now directed to make these Planned Gifts and am wondering where to start?!  Anyone have had to do this?  Some of them date back to 2000 and earlier.  *Sigh*

 This is a tedious process and if the gifts were not entered consistently it will be even harder and you may never find them all.  You just have to query and search.  Whether you choose to manually re-enter or use something like import is up to you.  Were they entered as pledge with a reference note of some kind?  Query on it.  Were they entered as notes or actions? Query on it.  Attributes?  Query on it.

Hind sight... but consistency is key.  These gifts could be entered in many many ways.  As long as you enter them consistently you can pull them all.  If they are entered one way by this person, another way by this person, another way during this time period... makes them harder to find.

I had to do this myself a couple of years ago.  There probably is no quick and easy answer.

Thanks for your reply.  As you mentioned, it has been various people, all with their own thoughts on previously entering the information all differently.
