Since 2002, the Clinton Health Access Initiative, CHAI (formerly the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative), has been assisting developing countries in implementing large-scale, integrated HIV care, treatment, and prevention programs. CHAI is currently active in Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, and Eastern Europe. In support of national HIV/AIDS programs, CHAI provides technical assistance, mobilizes human and financial resources, and facilitates the sharing of best practices across projects. CHAI has also negotiated agreements with leading pharmaceutical companies that have lowered the cost of HIV/AIDS and malaria diagnostics and treatment in the developing world by 30-90%. Our ultimate objectives are to make high-quality HIV/AIDS and malaria care and treatment available to all who need it, and to partner with governments and other stakeholders to strengthen healthcare systems and develop sustainable strategies to overcome obstacles to scale-up.

CHAI is currently seeking candidates for the position of Program Manager to manage the Access to Medicines & Diagnostics program in Lesotho.

Responsibilities:

  • Build the capacity of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to utilize robust forecasting practices for ARVs and other essential medicines and lab commodities. Provide technical assistance to coordinate several government and non-governmental partners for procurement and supply management of medicines, including donation of medicines;
  • Provide technical assistance to the MOH to develop and/or optimize policies and processes to ensure access to high quality, low cost ARVs and other essential medicines and commodities;
  • Support the MOH to plan for and roll-out new regimens and formulations. Complete analysis on the uptake of new formulations and develop interventions to overcome identified bottlenecks.
  • Support government to strengthen its supply chain management system by improving budgeting, forecasting, distribution & monitoring systems across various health commodities;
  • Oversee the day to day work of two Access Analysts;
  • Monitor pricing for ARVs, diagnostics and other health products, and negotiate / facilitate communications with CHAI and suppliers to achieve the lowest prices;
  • Disseminate information from CHAI's Drug Access Team, Laboratory Services Team, and Multi Drug Resistance TB team on supply dynamics and access issues;
  • Remain current on relevant technical information about HIV and TB such as globally recommended regimens, dosing, toxicities, or emerging diagnostic technologies;
  • Support CHAI-Lesotho in proposal writing or grant renewal negotiations with major in-country donors

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 3-5 years of work experience
  • Experience living and/or working in developing countries
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, set priorities, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong relationship management and problem solving skills
  • Fluency in English; excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High level of proficiency in relevant computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Business or Public Health
  • Experience working and communicating with government officials and multilateral organizations
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and/or global healthcare systems
