Ensuring attributes are completed

Options

Is there a way to create a rule that ensures attributes are completed?  For example, when a record is marked as Do Not Mail, I want to add an attriubte that explains why that record is marked as such.  I would like the data entry person to be reminded to do so.

While you can make an attribute required for all records, I'm not aware of a way to do it condtionally - for just records that have Do not Mail.

That would be a nice addition. If you put a suggestion on the discovery page, let us know.  I'd vote for it.  (Right off I can see requiring the attribute for what department employed for our 'staff' records)

JoAnn is right that there is no way of creating conditional business rules in Raiser's Edge out of the box. However we do have a product that is geared up for exactly that. Our product Validatrix allows you to create business rules that you would otherwise not be able to do in RE. In this case it would check to see if a record is do not mail and if so it would ensure that there is a corresponding explanatory attribute.

There are lots of other examples and you can base your rules of different records e.g. if a gift is saved that is over $1000 they could have a constituent code of major donor or if they are a participant at a specific event then they should have an action with a type of "event attendee", etc

Check out our website and what the screencast for more information.
