Founded in 1964, School Year Abroad (SYA) is the only secondary-level school which allows students to live with a European or Asian family for an entire academic year while earning U.S. graduation credits and preparing for selective U.S. colleges and universities.  Using second language as the vehicle and another culture as the extension of our classrooms, SYA helps secondary level students become broad-minded and well-educated citizens of the world.

Reporting to the Director of Development, and supporting an Alumni Relations and Development Office of seven people, the Development Systems Manager is responsible for the maintenance of all computer-based alumni and development information systems, including all aspects of the Raiser's Edge database; creating and running queries and analytical reports; overseeing gift entry and acknowledgements; and managing direct mail operations.  Candidates must possess strong database skills and should have at least three to five years of relevant development experience.

DUTIES

Management of Raiser's Edge Database

*  Design and generate complex financial, prospect/donor, event, and analytical reports as needed by the Alumni and   Development team using queries, exports, canned and custom Crystal Reports.

*  Add new and update existing records as needed through the use of imports, global adds and changes.

*  Create and perform data integrity checks to ensure that data is accurate, complete and captured in a manner consistent with the needs of the organization.

*  Maintain documentation of Raiser's Edge policies, procedures, and proper use of attributes, notes, actions, and other fields.

*  Provide in-house expertise and technical support to end-users on database and software-related issues and ensure that staff uses Raiser's Edge consistently and correctly.  Provide training as appropriate.

*  Identify, research, and resolve technical problems, working with outside vendors/technical support as needed.  Document, track and monitor problems to ensure timely resolution.

*  Oversee/monitor the synchronization of data between alumni community data sources and Raiser's Edge on a scheduled basis.  Ensure information is captured appropriately in all environments.

*  Oversee database wealth screening.

*  Review, analyze, and evaluate database systems and user needs to provide recommendations and solutions.

*  Manage user access and security and remain informed on software updates, upgrades and additional services.

Gift Processing

*  Oversee and implement the accurate collection, reporting and timely acknowledgment of all gifts related to annual, capital, and endowment giving campaigns.

*  Ensure that all pertinent information included with gifts is appropriately captured in the Raiser's Edge database.

*  Manage online giving and generate statistical reports.

*  Conduct quarterly reconciliations for all gifts and written pledges with the Business Office.

*  Maintain and safeguard gift and payment information in accordance with applicable privacy and data security laws, and ensure that records are complete and up to date.

Mailings

*  Generate mailing lists according to complex criteria for solicitations and communications, appropriately notating appeals and correspondence on individual database records.

*  Perform mail merges for in-house solicitations and coordinate with outside vendors for the production of large mailings.

Miscellaneous

*  Provide limited technical support to the Alumni and Development Office as needed.

*  Set up and attend events as needed.

*  Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

*  Bachelor's degree.

*  At least 3-5 years relational database experience, preferably in a development office in a school setting.

*  Knowledge of fundraising and development operations.

*  Strong computer skills, including Blackbaud Raiser's Edge or comparable relational database; Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and experience managing direct mail campaigns.

*  Familiarity with accepted IRS and CASE standards and procedures, gift-processing and basic accounting principles.

*  Previous experience with iModules, EverTrue, or other online community products.

*  Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy and deadlines, including proofreading and project follow-through.

*  Excellent interpersonal skills (in person and by phone), communication skills (verbal and written) and organizational skills.

*  Willingness to support a growing development department in a fast-paced environment; flexible and adaptable to change.

*  Self-starter with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously and utilize problem resolution and analytical skills.

*  High level of energy and an excellent customer service ethic.

*  Embraces a metrics-based approach to fundraising.

*  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
