Report: Donor Giving History with Multiple Years

Options
I'm working on the best way to pull giving by top donors (who have given a single gift of $1,000 or more) which needs to include:

-The donor's name

-Their total gifts in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013 (each as its own column)

-Relationships (especially because most of our donors are companies)

-Must be sorted by total giving amount - largest to smallest

This purpose of this side-by-side is to see which major donors have dropped off or decreased their giving over the past several years. This will be presented to a committee of the board of directors, so stakes are high!

I have tried a few options so far. A comparative report will only show giving for two date ranges (whereas, I need 4 date ranges). Constituent giving history report doesn't put each year of giving as its own column, and also can only be sorted alphabetically. A pivot report is actually the best option so far, but if I try to add in relationships or funds, it double-counts all of the gifts!

The answer seems to be to create a pivot report with only the donors' names and total giving for each year, but that means I would have to include the relationships (or soft credits, though that data is not always accurate) manually in Excel.

I'm not new to Raiser's Edge but I am new to my role, so any help would be very much appreciated! Thank you all in advance!

Elizabeth, my suggestion would be to create a query of the top donors based criteria of gift greater than or equal to $1000 and then use that query as the records to include in a constituent export to excel.

    • You can easily export any desired donor bio data - name in what ever add/sal format you desire.

    • For total gift amounts go to summary info>gifts>total gift amount.  And set your criteria for 2010 gift date and any other filters needed. Then for second year, in the right pane click on 'summary information' so that it is highlighted and then click 'total gift amount' again in left pane.  Select gift date info for your second year.  Repeat for additional years.  Each will be in separate column in order you export.

    • Relationships - choose Relationships>contacts.  Enter # to export per record and if desired specific types

    • Sort will need to be done in excel - to get amounts you can either total the columns in excel or repeat the steps for another summary gift amount column and use a date criteria to include all four years.

Think this should get you just what you need.

    JoAnn,

Thank you! This makes perfect sense - I will give it a shot today and report back!
