International House at UC Berkeley

Development Associate (Administrative Assistant III)

International House (I-House) is a multicultural residential "living and learning" center of nearly 600 students and scholars from 70+ countries, including the U.S., who attend the University of California Berkeley.  Its mission is to foster intercultural respect, understanding, lifelong friendships, and leadership skills to promote a more tolerant and peaceful world.

The I-House Office of Development and Alumni Relations maintains communications with alumni, coordinates reunions, an annual fundraising gala, and secures private gifts and grants to support the I-House mission.  The office also publishes the I-House Times newsletter, manages the I-House web and social media presence, and welcomes alumni year-round for tours and visits.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Development Associate has three key areas of responsibility -

1) Alumni and Donor Database Management - conducting database queries to support targeted print and electronic mailings, adding and updating constituent records (new alumni additions, correcting omissions and information gaps), evaluating and deploying strategies to improve data correlation between International House Raiser's Edge and UC Berkeley campus CADS databases, and independently utilizing CADS (UCB Campus Database System) as the source of campus data on donors and prospects with confidentiality and discretion.

2) Gift Processing - ensuring accuracy of gift processing consistent with donor intent, editing customized letters to donors, and assisting with confirmation and reconciliation of gifts with the I-House accounting office and auditors.

3) Administrative and front-line support - greeting visitors, answering phones, distributing mail, maintaining office supply inventory, preparing purchase orders, filing completed records, and processing travel and entertainment reimbursements.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Raiser's Edge experience required.
  • Bachelor's degree and 2-3 year of proven database management experience with a high degree of quality control in a "not for profit" environment preferred.
  • Experience in UC Berkeley CADS (Campus Database System) database a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as a part of a team while assuming multiple responsibilities and prioritizing assignments.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative, effective working relationships in a multicultural environment.

Occasional night and weekend shifts required.

Other:  This is a career 50%( 20 hours per week) position and is subject to successful completion of a criminal background check.
