Position Summary

GLSEN is seeking an experienced professional to fill the role of Foundation Relations Manager to expand and solidify its foundation giving to help better support organizational programs and mission.  The right individual will have experience prospecting, cultivating and successfully writing grants for educational, civil rights and/or youth-centered organizations.  A focus on multi-year and multi-program support a major plus.

 

The Foundation Relations Manager raises philanthropic support for GLSEN priorities and programs by identifying, cultivating, soliciting, stewarding and maintaining relationships with national private foundations, but not excluding the potential to solicit corporation foundations. Responsible for forming mutually beneficial, long-term partnerships with foundations in order to strengthen and increase the organizational ties to these important philanthropic partners. Oversees grant stewardship; ensures compliance with funding guidelines; and provides accurate and timely reporting. Proactively seeks opportunities to generate proposals based on foundation interests that will result in funding for the immediate and long-term goals of GLSEN. Significant experience in writing effective grant applications/proposals. Superior written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of and experience in using research resources for identifying grant maker prospects and funding opportunities.

 

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation sources.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations to evaluate prospects for foundation grants.
  • Build relationships with institutional donors, working closely with the Sr. Director of Development and the Executive Director
  • Craft compelling grant narratives that successfully leverage GLSEN assets
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Provide stewardship to current donors, including work with Communications to provide regular written updates to foundation donors.
  •  Maintain current records in database and in paper files, including grant tracking and reporting.
  • Assist with other fundraising projects as requested

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Strong editing skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Knowledge of basic fundraising techniques and strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Strong contributor in team environments

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Foundation Relations.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Record of stewardship of fundraising relationships.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.

This position is located in GLSEN's New York City headquarters.
