When reporting matching gift pledges, how do you export the original gift?

Options

 Good afternoon,

I am having difficulty finding a way to export the original gift when reporting on matching gift pledges.

Any suggestions?

 Thank you,

    Judy,

What info are you specifically looking for?  The constituent?  Gift amount?

If you need list of MG with constituent, the MG amount/balance, did you check out Reports > Financial Reports > Matching Gift Report?

    Just a thought...

    Hi Judy,

Sounds like you would like to see any gift that has a Matching Gift Pledge, correct? If this is the case, I'd suggest that you create a gift query for any gift within the date range you are looking for, that has a Matching Gift. Once you have that query, you create a gift export and output information regarding the original donor's gift, as well as any information regarding that matching gift pledge as well.

First, create a new Gift Query with Dynamic format:

    Criteria:

Gift Information > Gift date between (this is if you are looking for gifts within a specific date range)

AND Matching Gifts > Matched By not blank

(if you want to include any gift, regardless of date range, simply add the following criteria)

Matching Gifts > Matched By not blank.

The results will return any gift in your database that has a Matching Gift.

    Save and close this query.

Next, please create a new Gift Export.

On the General Tab, include the above query.

    Output:

*any appropriate gift information you are looking for on the original donors gift i.e Gift amount, gift date, Constituent Name

Select Matching Gifts > any appropriate Matching Gift information you are looking for: ie amount, date, Matching gift company name, etc.

Hope this is helpful to you.

I actually think she wants something different and not sure it is possible.

I think she wants a gift export, and in it include matching gift pledges but with the data on the MG Pledge, include original gift info.

I have had a similar problem where I wanted to export pledge payments but wanted to include pledge information. It was not possible in export to get this information.

Thank you all very much.   JoAnn, I did try the matching gift report and I was unable to access the originating gift.  Melissa, you are correct, I cannot get this information for matching gifts or pledge installments through export.

Annie, your suggestion to come from the other end is intriguing (and frustrating that I didn't think of that route).  I've not tried an export that way, so I'm not sure of the field options but I'm going to give it a try.

Thank you all again for your time!

    Hi all,

I have a new twist on this.  I have open matching gift pledges from previous fiscal years for which I require the information on the original cash gift which is being matched.

Although the previous suggestion works very well for current year gifts, I have far too many matching gifts in my database to export all cash gifts with a match in order to find original cash gift information on open matching gift pledges.

I looked to see if I could create a gift query of matching gift pledge balance greater than zero, but pledge balance is not an available field (I'm working in 7.94).  Any suggestions?
  • Try this:

    Query type: Gift

    Criteria:

Match Gift Date (specify desired date range)

    Output:

    Constit ID

    Name

    Gift Date

    Gift Amount

    Gift Type

    fine tune as needed

Where to find Match Gift Date:

    Hi Judy,

I did this with two queries: (1) a query of MG Pledges with a balance >0, output includes Gift ID; (2) a query of gifts (e.g. defined by date range or whatever criteria works for you) with matched amount not blank, output includes Match Gift ID. You can export both queries to Excel and use VLOOKUP to connect the MG Pledge to the original gift.

    -best, Sara
