FundOrgs vs Fund Records

Options

 Hi,

I am looking to pick the brains of CF's that utilize an organizational record (we call it a fund org) to store all their information regarding funds versus using the RE Fund record.

     Hi,

    What is a CF?

How would you do this? How would you enter a gift and make it go into that fund and report to finance that is the restriction on the gift as given to you by the donor and report on how much was riased from that fund? I certainly hope that soft credits is not your answer as then you lose all actual functionality for the real purpose of soft credits.

Fund is a required field in RE - are you going to put dummy data in there? Why not continue to use funds but have a relationship between that fund and the fund org you want? This hopefully would give you the relationship you need between gifts given to that fund and the org in your database.

You did not explain "why" you thought this was better or why fund is not working for you. Can you share that?

    Stephanie -

There is a Blackbaud Forum specifically for Community Foundations, and this topic has been discussed on that forum.  You can contact your Blackbaud customer support rep and he/she can get you added to this Forum and then you'll have access to the information there (or post another question about it).

I believe these organization records that acted as fund records were created before there was a fund relationship feature in RE, so it was a workaround in order to create a relationship between an individual and a fund.  Now that there is the fund relationship, I believe it's advisable to convert this information to the fund record and create relationships between the fund record and the individuals.  And it's my recollection that if you are planning to use any of the community foundation parts available in NetCommunity, you are required to use these fund relationships so you have to have this structure in place.

    Hope this helps --

I was basically looking for organizations that use something called FundOrgs (which is basically an organization record that houses fund information/relationship. It has nothing to do with gifts and they not recorded there.
