DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

Job Description: Reporting to the Senior Director of Special Events, the Development Manager plays a vital role in supporting the critical mission of FARE by managing and growing local, regional and national development campaigns and initiatives. H/She is responsible for serving as the fundraising professional and leader within the assigned region. Additionally, the Development Manager will contribute to the organization’s fundraising goals by supporting all efforts to raise revenue in the New York office. S/he will have the opportunity to interact with high-level donors, Board members, and staff. H/She will provide general administrative support to the New York office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with strategies geared to increase net revenue and increase awareness through Walks, special events, third-party events, and all other fundraising activities as assigned.
  • Craft and execute strategies/projects as assigned.
  • Meet net budget expectations as defined.
  • Manage all expenses to achieve the lowest cost ratio possible. Have a keen cost sense and identify opportunities for savings.
  • Identify and share with Senior Director, Special Events, any event participants with significant annual and/or major gift potential.
  • Work with the other area development manager to support 3 Walk Events throughout the Region: Westchester, Long Island, and Connecticut.
  • Assist with management of other national special events:
    • Develop solicitation materials.
    • Manage aspects of fundraising and logistics for assigned events.
  • Provide general administrative support for the New York office to include:
    • Point person for resolution of basic technical issues (phones, computer, copier, etc.)
    • Monitor and replenish supply inventory as needed; identify cost effective resources for all office supplies including specialty stationery and brochures.
    • Liaise with building management regarding office maintenance needs.
    • Maintain Conference Room calendar and manage reservations.
    • Other administrative assistance as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to effectively communicate with members, donors, and the general public via mail, telephone, and email.
  • Superb organization skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize workload, maintain several projects of equal priority at once, and sustain productivity and accuracy under pressure.
  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel; knowledge of PowerPoint desirable.
  • Prospect research skills preferred.
  • Ability to work independently, using good judgment, resourcefulness, and initiative.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills with the ability to interact in a positive manner with diverse and demanding clientele using a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and discretion with emphasis on flexibility and professionalism.
  • Aptitude for problem-solving.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 2-5 years’ experience in grassroots fundraising, event management, or development.
  • Adept at use of social networks for fundraising, including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate and present in a professional demeanor with constituents at all levels.
  • Self-starter; highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Able to understand the need of volunteers with varying skill sets and committed to serving on a focused, results-driven team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; Raiser’s Edge and Blackbaud FAF event database and/ or related donor database experience a plus.
  • Available and willing to travel as required.
