Setting up an event package with registration "options"

When setting up a scheduled program event I sometimes get a request to add a new ticket price type with an “add on” option that veers away from how we've structured ticket price types (adult, youth, senior, etc.). Usually we are able to set these up as special events so that we can use the Altru registration options. However, we are now setting up an event package and that “add on” option has been requested. I'm curious if and how folks handle the set up of events with more than one option for registration (e.g. concert or concert + reception), which are also part of a series, and are also available for sale online.
