Can anyone apply to conditional/associated opportunities?

Options

Hello all,

I'm looking at using conditional applications as a try out for one of the schools on campus. I wonder if anyone can let me know - is it possible for a student who was not routed to the conditional application apply to a associated opportunity? I ask as there are times where students fall through the cracks - their specific record might not meet the conditions to be filtered through the conditional application but on further study it is realized they are eligible. A good example is a student who changed majors but that data isn't reflected in the software yet. Can they still apply or are they bared from being able to access these opportunities? Thanks for any input!

  • @Marilee Abramshe, Good afternoon!

From my experience, if an opportunity is tied to a conditional application, students must have a drafted or submitted (conditional) application to obtain access to that auto-match/ apply-to opportunity.

As a university, instead of using majors or academic record information to qualify students for a specific conditional application (specifically for the reason you noted - issues with accurate records), we have our conditional applications tied to questions on the General Application where students can select which applications they want access to.

    Here is the question set.

Each college has their own application and regardless of their major/ minor, students can complete each application. We filter out ineligible students via the qualification points set up for the reviewer groups (i.e. must have specific major code, etc.).

We have found a lot of success with this, especially with students that are changing majors or don't know what major they want. Don't know what college you'll be in? No problem. Just complete the relevant applications for each one.

    I hope that helps!

  • Also, here is a screenshot of what the student see's if they haven't completed the appropriate Conditional Application. I believe this confirms that if the student can't have access to the Conditional Application, they can't complete the opportunities tied to them.

  • @Marilee, we have seen this from time to time. Our solution has been to add a new qualification group to the conditional app with the single criteria of Campus ID must be exactly X, and then we enter that specific student's ID number. This will automatically give them access to the conditional app and any opportunities associated with it. The only downside is that it requires the student to notify us that they should have access but don't… we don't have a way of accessing these students automatically. However, when a scholarship coordinator or faculty member promotes a scholarship opportunity, that's typically what will spur an inquiry to our office. I hope this helps!
