  • Jill,

As a private Jesuit institution we have a number of donor sponsored scholarships with specific requirements that don't fit in the qualification options in Award Management so we utilize our General App to assist Financial Aid in identifying eligible students - so some of our questions may seem odd. Our Law and Dental campuses also have a unique application specific to their donor sponsored scholarships. Below are the questions we use on our general app. - hope you find this helpful! Michele

Are you a current Michigan resident? (Yes/no)

Graduated High School State (select from list)

Did you graduate from a Catholic or other parochial high school? (yes/no)

What is your religious affiliation? (select from list)

Ancestry/ Heritage/ Nation of Origin: (select from list)

I attended ... select all that apply: (select from list - list includes specific high schools and types of pre-K, high school and undergraduate institutions)

Please list any community service or campus activities you are involved in: (essay)

Please tell us more about yourself: (essay)

I am a child of a University of Detroit Mercy alum: (yes/no)

Ford Motor Company Relationship: (select from list)

I am the child of a current or former UAW worker: (yes/no)

Would you be willing to attend a reception with the scholarship donor, should you be selected for a scholarship? (yes/no)

    Authorize and Release Statement

  • Thank you so much for the information! Really appreciate it.

  • @Michele GuyorBorthwick Thanks for sharing your application questions. It's helpful to see what others are considering in their scholarships. I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if you could give me some examples from your select list under your Ancestry/Heritage/Nation of Origin question. We've encountered some questions about how we consider applicants based on ethnicity, and we're investigating alternate ways of qualifying.

  • @Jill M Collins Students are made aware that answers to the questions will be used only to help determine their eligibility for different scholarships in our system. The question is “Ancestry/Heritage/Nation of Origin” and the answer set is a Multi-Select List. The potential answers that can be selected are based on criteria from donor supported scholarships in our system - our list:

    Arabic
    English
    German
    Irish
    Lebanese
    Middle Eastern
    Polish
    Syrian
    Other
    I prefer not to answer

As we require a response to the question we provide the option “I prefer not to answer” and as the specific descriptors in the list are based on scholarships in our system we also include an option of “Other” as obviously many students will not fit one of these descriptors. As of today we have had 266 students fill out the general application in the current cycle. “Other” was the only response for 113, and “I prefer not to answer” was chosen by 10.

  • @Christina Mohler Sorry my response replied to Jill, the original poster. :)
