Faculty Nominations

Options

We have a unit who utilizes a faculty nomination process for many of their scholarships. Currently, they just send a list of student names for a scholarship to an administrator, then he verifies their eligibility and puts them in the running, and ultimately, makes the offer via Award Management. He would like the faculty members to be able to submit their nominations via Award Management directly, but we cannot see how to make this happen. We could have the faculty member ask the student to apply and list them as a reference, then they could confirm the nomination through a reference template, but that seems pretty clunky. Anyone have another way to do this, or should I just submit it as an Idea?

  • Corrine,

I've run into the same issue... A couple colleges at my university tried using a conditional application to create a nomination form for students to nominate their classmates for various awards. It worked well enough for the students to submit a nomination form, but it was a nightmare on the back end to organize those submissions for review, since the system thinks the nominator and not the nominee is being reviewed. If you wanted to give it a try, though, you can probably load in faculty as applicants to allow them to complete a conditional application. But I just don't think it's worth it. The couple colleges that tried it at my school went back to their old (outside the system) processes and just use the system to select the recipients as an Auto-Match opportunity. As an alternative, although this may also be too much work for you, I wonder if there's a way for faculty to tell you who they want to nominate, then you force apply that student and enter that faculty member as a reference; so the student's application would just consist of the faculty's reference letter/questionnaire... Although if this is supposed to happen without the students' knowledge, the students could see they have an application if they log in the system. The bottom line is the system just wasn't set up for this, and there's not an easy work around I've discovered... yet.
