Outside/External Scholarships

Hello

Does anyone use the external scholarship function in Award management?  If so do you post multiple opportunities or just specific ones?  Right now I am tweeting about 30 outside scholarship opportunities a month and wondering if I should the awards management system instead.  Thanks!

  • Hi Michelle:

We use the feature at Sheridan College and it works really well. You can have external awards remain open during the year with various deadline dates and have others set to "visible when open" so the posting disappears once the opportunity closes. We do review all requests for legitimacy before posting to the system.

  • We do use the External Scholarship Functionality on a limited basis. After legitimacy is verified, we simply post the description as "Information available at http://..." and provide the url link. No details and no further processing on our part. Community organizations have appreciated our being able to refer our students to their websites, so it's been a beneficial utility.
  • We use it as well.  We have specific parameters for the scholarships we can include internally (no membership required, from non-profits/foundations only) so the external allows us to share scholarships that don't meet those parameters - credit unions, membership based professional organizations, etc. It is a bit of work to keep them all updated because you are relying on other people updating their information but I do think it is beneficial to the students.
  • This is a feature I'll be starting to use in our next cycle.  Right now we list external awards on a separate website so I'm hoping putting them here will help make it easier for students to find opportunities. Would love to hear any suggestions/recommendations on how to best use this feature from those who do use it.
  • Hi All,

We currently have a separate page on our Financial Aid website with a list of off campus scholarships.

We use the External Scholarships section for scholarships which are institutional nomination based awards - so they don't require an application and are therefore external from the BBAM scholarship portal.  This way, students are able to see  the descriptions of all application and nomination based scholarships, but they are located in two separate sections.  How do other schools process institution nomination based scholarship/awards in BBAM?
