Group Sync naming structure

Options

We are just getting started with Luminate Online, and are using Omatic to set up many of our formulas. We are in the process of setting up a formula that will use a “Group Sync” which relies on the Groups to be set up within LO.

What have others done to set up the naming of their groups? We are thinking about our donors, Alumni, acquisition, lapsed donors, long lapsed, etc. Could those be the group names?

Or is it better to have more general groups like Alumni, Annual Giving, Acquisition?

Thank you.

There's no limit on the LO side, other than how much work you want to put into the the logistics of management and how likely you are to use the granularity. I've historically gone for the “more detail is better,” so I like to have a range of general-to-specific groups, so that I can capture all of the different “facets” of a constituent and target them on the LO end.

For example, I might have “All Alumni” as well as “2024 Graduates”, “2023 Graduates”, etc. Maybe even some collection groups like “Graduates in the last decade” based on a dynamic query.

Disclaimer, I've been a RELO guy. But I assume this is meta enough it'd transcend which platform you're syncing with.

Love both the full groups and the granularity. If possible, using Group Types can help keep all the different groups organized.
