HELP with Membership Count in RE 7 Membership Module.

Options

This pertains to the RE 7 Database Membership Module: For the life of me I can never get the same counts for the number of people who have a membership, say for FY22, regardless if they are still active or not. I have run queries, used various membership reports and everyone of those give a different count. Even spoke with Blackbaud. Has anyone found a good solution for getting the number of membership during a certain time frame. I have always found this so frustrating. The best I could come up with is the Membership Statistics By Category, it seems to be close to accurate.

  • @Joe Moretti The challenge, and perhaps the reason why you're getting different numbers, may relate to defining exactly what you mean by Members in a particular period. For example, if you're looking for people who were members in 2024, do you include someone whose membership lapsed on 2nd January 2024? Do you also include someone who only became a member on 31st December? What about someone who joined in June but then resigned - or died - in July?

Different reports may make different assumptions about which of these are included, and you need to think about the purpose of your report to decide what's best. If all you want is to be able to compare year-on-year, then it may not matter which measure you use as long as you're consistently using the same one. If you want something very specific then you might have to look at queries and construct them very carefully with a combination of start dates, expiry dates, dropped dates, etc.

  • @Simon Koppel I have tried it all, talked to Tech Support to no avail. Basically I am looking, let's say how many people were members in FY23 (7.1.22 thru 6.30.23). It does not matter when they joined, expired, etc, just that they were members during that time frame. If they joined halfway thru, they count, if they expired half way thru they count. It also does not matter if they are active or lapsed currently, as long as they were members during that time frame. Not too hard, yet for decades, the membership module seems to be problematic and they have not updated or improved their reporting on this. I have used queries, various report, etc, all with the same criteria and different numbers for each. So there really is no challenge, it is a straight forward question, how many members were there in FY22 or how many members were there in FY24, etc.
