Email Marketing/Workflow endpoints

Options

I'm working on a project that involves sending emails to new donors over the course of several months. Essentially doing exactly what Workflows are advertised as being able to do.

The catch is my requirements include both things that NXT email marketing does well (Opt-outs) and things it simply doesn't do like canceling currently scheduled asks when a new donation is received.

If there was an API endpoint to add a constituent to a NXT workflow it would actually be fairly straight forward to build the logic in Power automate and trigger simple 1 email workflows to send the actual emails. I've created a idea to that effect API-I-559.

I am however, open to other suggestions or discussion about how I could get something like this up and running.

If you are already looking to use API, then why not just automate the sending of these email via the platform that you were planning to run the API in. (i.e. Power Automate)

This would be better than wishing/hoping for an API endpoint that doesn't exists yet.

  • @Alex Wong that was the initial plan but I'm running into problems trying to figure out how email recipients can unsubscribe.

I'm not allowed to use MS forms for this (something about data going across borders last I heard, though I thought our Microsoft tenant was wholly in Canada). I might be able to get an unsubscribe page on the main website but that will take longer and often results in clunky integrations in the end.

It would also allow tracking of opens and clicks (which I have some idea of how to do in PA but a tool with it built in would save me a bunch of work)

You are right, trying to “re-create” a full emailing system is not a great idea.

Reading your OP again and feel what you want to do should be already achieveable.

Can you provide the “specific” on what you trying to do?

I've already built a flow that schedules RE actions for new donors after their first gift is acknowledged (5 months and 11 months later), a flow that reschedules those actions when we have dates we don't want to be sending emails, and a flow that could send emails each day based on the actions in RE.

The only requirement I'm currently stuck on is having an compliant unsubscribe mechanism in the emails.

I could send the emails through NXT email marketing or NetCommunity but I currently don't have a way to automate those so I'd have to send once per month rather than daily (and it would end up being more work in the long run).

I'm not completely sure I understand your delimma.

You shouldn't “recreate” a complete email campaign platform that will do unsubscribe and tracking. that's for bulk solicitation, which aren't really meant to be automated.
