Setting up the PowerBi Connector: "This application is not compatible" error message

Options

Hi all,

I'm trying to set up the Power Bi connector, following this instructions:

When I go to RE NXT and try to connect the app, I see an error message saying "
This application is not compatible with any of the solutions in your Blackbaud environment." (see screenshot below)

What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?

thank you

Anna

    Hi @Anna Silvestri

When editing your PowerBi/Raiser's Edge Connector App, look at the lower left side of the app setup under ‘Scopes’. This is an additional level of security. If you haven't already done so, you'll want to setup at least “Limited Data Access” with Read for Raiser's Edge NXT. After making that change, you'll have to go back to the App Management Area in the Marketplace to accept that change.

  • @Glen Hutson thank you, that was very helpful! But now I have another issue: I connected the app, but when I go to Power B desktop and click on get data, I can't find Blackbaud. I've checked the steps in the guide again, and I believe I'm done everything ok…do I maybe need to wait a few hours? or what else could it be? I've already changed security settings in PowerBi to allow for not certified extensions.

I'll defer to others that may have had more recent experience. I'm on a Mac 90% of the time and my Windows setup isn't currently available for testing / refreshing my memory.

there are a few reasons why “Blackbaud” doesn't show up in power BI Desktop, starting with the file you created is not in the right format.

Can you screenshot where you saved the file and the file itself with the “extension” of the file shown.

  • @Alex Wong
Thank you Alex! Here the screenshot:

location and file itself is ok.

next is to make sure you “zip” the files correctly. If you were to rename the file back to a .zip file extension, open the file, do you see a Blackbaud folder, or do you see the 22 files directly.

    Screenshot will helps.

issue i'm talking about is sometime, people zip the “folder” of blackbaud instead of directly the 22 files, which is not correct.

  • @Alex Wong
Thank you again Alex. I see the 22 files:

    @Anna Silvestri
Then it looks like you got all the steps correct.

I have seen this with some other user before, you can try uninstalling power bi desktop and reinstall. Also, try to install Power BI Desktop on another computer and place the mez file in the correct location and see if it loads. OneDrive sync of location folder sometimes affect this as well.

  • @Alex Wong Thank you, I'll try these steps in the next days!

  • @Anna Silvestri
    Hi Anna,
The problem is the folder name. It needs to be "Custom Connectors" but it's currently misspelled as "Costum Connectors". So, rename it accordingly and everything should function correctly.
