Dashboard metrics including future scheduled pledge installments?

Options

I am working on a new dashboard for one of our workgroups--they'd like to see where they are in comparison to our goals--easy enough. Their preference is a Power BI w/drill-through. Where I am getting hung up is getting ‘future’ info--there has been some mention of a request to see ‘how we are set for next year’, as in showing, say, scheduled pledge installments.

In my head, this would be something like a stacked bar graph showing received revenue and anticipated revenue. I don't want the two to mingle, but the team wants to see that total anticipated+received info.

I think this report would basically look like a version of the old canned "cash flow' report from db, but I'm not sure there are outputs for this. Aside from exporting from db (we don't have Queue), does anyone have any ideas?

In order to get installment and payment details, you need to use Gift v2 SKY API endpoints. (you cannot just use installment details, you need payment too as sometime an installment in 2025, may have already been paid in 2023, which then you can't count as “anticipated” money for 2025).

The issue is, you can only get installment and pyament details ONE pledge at a time, per API call. So depending on how many pledges (active) you have in your system, it may be a API limit issue.

While may be possible to directly use power bi connector for blackbaud, it is difficult in my opinion, I have not seen anyone posted saying they have done power bi iterator to get data where the API only do 1 record at a time.

  • @Alex Wong thanks for your feedback!

When I was hearing the wishlist for this report, I was skeptical that I could check all their boxes. I think I'll just work on getting a really good current-revenue dashboard and maybe we can build it out letter if pledge installments become easier to work with.

Through multiple channels, I have let Blackbaud and the engineer behind Gift v2 knows the importance of being able to get all installments and payments. So I'm hopeful.

  • @Nicole Holt I might have had a suggestion, but it would require and export from a mail parameter in db view so won't work for you. Hopefully you get the information you need soon!
